I’m back! We’ve dug ourselves out of the snow and my internet access has been restored (and wow that was a traumatic 2 days without internet LOL). So, without further ado…
Welcome to the Granny Square Crochet Along! I’ll be your resident expert (haha) - I’m newly-qualified after making my first ever square for our new banner
I’m sure other members of our group will be able to help if there are any questions I can’t cope with.
Now don’t be fooled by the name; it may be called a Granny Square, but that doesn’t mean it has to be old-fashioned! With modern yarns and colour combinations, you can crochet some fabulous creations.
Here are some beautiful examples of what people do with their finished squares:
- Use Granny Squares of different sizes to make a Babette Blanket
- Granny Bag and Clutch (from Creative Reveries)
- Granny items from Japanese craft magazines (at Little Purl of the Orient)
I’ve compiled some links for the sidebar, with some great help from Melissa and Cassandra (thanks ladies!). I’ve split the links into 2 categories: Granny Squares (how-tos and different square patterns), and Granny Inspiration (project tutorials for things to make from your squares). If you find any more links, please send them on to me (craft@planetjune.com) and I’ll add them to the list.
For my square, I used a great tutorial from the Purl Bee on how to make a classic granny square. If you’ve never made a square before, I recommend you try one using this tutorial!

YAY! now let me just get a cool drink. We have another very hot day today 28C in New Zealand yet it is summer over here.
Thanks for putting all the links together nice to get some inspiration.
I came across CraftyPod’s blog today and guess what there was a post about…vintage granny squares. Here is the link if you want to check it out.

I especially love the giant robot!
Thanks for sharing that link. I like the giraffe and the Ball or Bean Bag seat is amazing as well. Who would’ve thought?
Hello,

Congratulations for the beautiful things you make!!
